Year 9 Options – Introduction
Choosing your Key Stage 4 options is an exciting stage in your educational journey. It is an opportunity for pupils to begin specialising in subjects that interest them, motivate them, and ignite their passions for the future.
All pupils will continue to study a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, Religious Education, PE and PSHE, ensuring that every pupil maintains a strong academic foundation while also supporting their personal development and wellbeing.
We now ask pupils to begin making decisions about which subjects they would like to study further as they move into the next stage of their education. These choices are important and should be made carefully, with guidance from teachers and parents, and with consideration of future aspirations.
It is particularly important that pupils choose subjects based on their interests, strengths and future goals, rather than selecting subjects simply to be with friends. Making thoughtful and independent choices will help ensure pupils remain motivated and successful throughout their courses.
Key Dates
- 12th February – Pupils receive an options assembly and make indicative choices
- 18th March – Options Evening. An opportunity for pupils and parents to speak with subject leaders and gather information before making final decisions
- 27th March – Final option choices submitted
Pathways
Pupils will be guided to choose subjects from one of two pathways:
- Enhance – A balanced pathway offering a range of subjects
- Engage – A pathway designed to support personalised learning needs
Information booklets for each pathway are available below. Pupils and parents are encouraged to use the recommended booklet when discussing options prior to the information evening with staff and seeking advice about the most suitable pathway and subjects.
Videos explaining the course content and key details for each subject are also available below. These are designed to help pupils and parents gain a clear understanding of what each course involves before making final choices. Please also see below options presentation and form.
We encourage all pupils to take time to consider their choices carefully and to seek advice where needed to ensure they select the pathway and subjects that best support their interests and future goals
