Recognition for pupils’ creative writing skills

TWO Year 7 students put their creative writing skills to the test and were shortlisted in a Dorset-wide competition.

Demi Cooper and Joey Black attended the New Horizons Award Ceremony at Allenbourn Middle School on Wednesday, May 25, where they met performance poet Joseph Selby, authors Elen Caldecott, David Solomons and Ella Burfoot.

The aim of the New Horizons Award and associated creative writing competitions is to encourage young people to be more adventurous in their reading and writing. Young people are encouraged to look beyond their favourite authors and explore fiction by new and up-and-coming authors and to think about what makes a story or novel appeal to them.

This was the fourth biennial New Horizons Book Award and competition and was run by Dorset Library and School Library Services.
