J.P. Morgan donation buys books for library

The shelves in our school library are now better stocked thanks to a generous donation from J.P. Morgan.

“We have a wide range of reading and it has been great to be able to add to the library resources,” says Dagmar James, Literacy Resources Manager. “A number of our students are taking part in an ongoing Accelerated Reader programme and it has been very encouraging to see the progress that is being made.”

Students are able to read a book from a selected range and can then test themselves online and get an instant result to show how they have done. They can then receive certificates and have their achievements noted which can be very beneficial in building in self-confidence.

“During World Book day we had a storyteller come and visit us which proved to be a real success,” added Dagmar.

The library is becoming an increasingly well used resource at the academy.

As well as being used during the normal working day, some students use it during their lunch breaks and a number have now joined a Book Club as their enrichment subject.

J.P. Morgan made a donation of £1,000 and Caroline Donnell, a member of the J.P. Morgan Community Relations Committee came to visit us. She said: “It was great to see the students enjoying the books and we are delighted to have been able to help in this way.”
