It’s official – we are a ‘Good’ school!

We’ve done it! Ofsted inspectors have declared St Aldhelm’s Academy to be good in all areas and praised the “stunning transformation” that has taken place.

After a two day inspection, Ofsted inspectors hailed the massive improvements that have taken place across the academy since it was taken over by Ambitions Academies Trust last June.

Back then, the academy was in special measures and described as “dysfunctional and unsafe.” But just one year later, inspectors said it was “now a place which is rooted in high expectations, where pupils behave well and enjoy coming to the school each day.”

The report added: “Senior leaders communicate the highest of expectations and have raised the aspirations and restored the confidence of staff, pupils and parents.

“As a result, the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and pupils’ outcomes have improved rapidly. Pupils’ behaviour, in particular, has undergone a dramatic improvement.”

They also noted the fact that “pupils speak overwhelmingly positively about the improvements in behaviour since the Ambitions Academies Trust and current senior leaders took over the running of the school” and said students now feel proud to attend St Aldhelm’s.

Principal Sian Thomas said: “This is just the beginning for us. We may have achieved our goal of getting out of special measures but we always tell the pupils that high expectations lead to high achievements so we will keep improving in order to reach outstanding.”
