Male grooming masterclass for students

Our hair and beauty students were treated to a masterclass in male grooming when award-winning barber Mike Taylor visited St Aldhelm’s.

Mike, who is the Director of the British Barbers’ Association, showed off his skills and gave an informative presentation about the barbering industry.

He told students the trade dates back to 3500 BC and was around long before hairdressing.

The male grooming industry is now estimated to be worth £13.2bn and in 2012, the number of new barbershops that opened up was second only to charity shops.

A third of men admit to spending more than 30 mins a day on their appearance and men spend on average £180 a year having their hair cut.
