Students to star in Poole Passion Play

St Aldhelm’s Academy students are taking part in the 2016 Poole Passion Play, which will be featured on BBC’s Songs of Praise on Easter Sunday.

Students have been working with Professor June Boyce-Tillman, Shannen Knutsen and Kate Dower from Winchester University and their own music tutor Nicholas Sanders who has been helping them learn songs for the production.

This is the first time St Aldhelm’s Academy students have participated in The Poole Passion’s biennial play. The play ‘Through the Eyes of a Child’ has been written by Sharon Muiruri and  will be performed daily between 15 and 19th March at 7pm.

The play’s subject is the Passion of the Christ and resonates to those of the Christian faith, no faith and to other faiths.

It starts at Parkstone United Reformed Church and moves to St Peter’s, Parkstone. A 12-year-old child, dressed in contemporary clothing, moves through the scenes asking ‘What are they doing to him?’ ‘Why is this happening?’ whilst the remainder of the cast are dressed in traditional biblical costume.

This year will be the Poole Passion’s fifth production. It features a compelling story, two local venues, a participatory procession, holographic light works, powerful actors including a mix of professional and amateurs, amazing music and a Son et Lumiere (sound and light show)

The Poole Passion has also received the fantastic news that they have received an Arts Grant from the Arts Council of England and support from the Borough of Poole Arts Service along with a variety of local sponsors who are sponsoring particular scenes in the play.
