University mentors support pupils’ reading

Student ambassadors from Bournemouth University are visiting St Aldhelm’s Academy every week to support pupils with their reading.

Year 7 pupils are currently benefiting from ‘Books & Stories’ – a ten-week reading scheme designed to improve reading attainment and attitudes towards reading.

The sessions are led by student ambassadors who act as positive role models and support pupils with guided reading. This fun and engaging scheme also increases pupils’ self-esteem and motivation.
