Kevin’s a mini marathon marvel

Everyone at St Aldhelm’s would like to congratulate Year 7 student Kevin Walker, who completed in the mini London marathon last weekend.

Twelve-year-old Kevin, who uses a walking frame or a wheelchair to get around, took 26.21 minutes to complete the 5k course in his racing wheelchair.

Kevin came 5th in the under-14 race and 18th overall. He has been proudly displaying his medal to staff and students this week and collecting sponsorship money for the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) Dorset development squad. Kevin currently rides a horse called Monty with the RDA so it is a cause very close to his heart.

Kevin said: “The mini marathon was very busy, but a very inspiring experience. When I was a baby, the doctors said I wouldn’t be able to sit up without any support but I don’t listen to rules, I like to push myself.

“I’d like to do the London race again.”
