Dear Parents and Pupils
‘High Expectations lead to High Achievers’! That is what our students expect of their teachers and that is what we expect of our students. At St Aldhelm’s Academy, we are truly committed to ensuring that all students leave at the end of Year 11 with a broad range of highly respected academic and vocational qualifications, are ‘well rounded’ and knowledgeable in their view of life and aspirational for themselves in the careers they choose to follow.
As Principal, I am very proud to lead St Aldhelm’s Academy and, especially, all of the young people who attend it. I am very proud of the high quality teaching that is experienced by students every day and of our outstanding facilities which include brand new classrooms, a theatre, a dance studio, a hair and beauty salon and a garage. With a huge range of extra-curricular clubs and our Enrichment programme on a Wednesday afternoon, all of our students have every opportunity to flourish, succeed and pursue their learning and their passion in a safe, caring and supportive environment. We share our parents’ wish that students will leave St Aldhelm’s Academy as resilient, confident, creative, kind and caring young adults who will be successful as they navigate life and contribute positively to the community in which they live.
The March 2016 OFSTED report describing the academy as having been “transformed” through “rapid and sustained improvement” by senior leaders reflects the hard work that has been put into the education of our students. Observations by the inspection team, particularly praising the “calm and harmonious” learning environment along with the “high level of trust and respect” that exists between teachers and students, were echoed in a visit during December 2016 by a representative from the Regional School Commissioner, who also highlighted “consistent and regular marking” as a real strength of the academy. In short, as every academic term passes, the academy continues to deliver and develop high quality education for all its students.
The OFSTED inspection team also reported that students are “proud” to be members of St Aldhelm’s Academy. The pastoral care provided is second to none and, because of our size, we know our students and our parents extremely well. We pride ourselves on clear and regular communication with parents about their child’s personal and academic development.
Ultimately, the best way to experience the high quality of education we provide is to visit us during a working day. We offer appointments at any time, on any day and you are welcome to visit anywhere on the site, speak with students and put any questions you may have to them, my staff or me.
I look forward to welcoming you to our academy where you will see for yourself that ‘High Expectations’ really do lead to ‘High Achievers’.
Mr Jon Webb
