Ethos and Values

Vision and Ethos

As Principal, I believe in the power of education to change young people’s lives and the right of every child to receive an excellent education. At St Aldhelm’s Academy we believe that education is about developing the whole child and providing opportunities for all students to experience fully our academy values of belong, explore and flourish.

Belong – Feel safe and to feel part of our school, to feel safe, supported and respected

We want ALL students to feel safe, supported and valued. Student wellbeing is extremely important to us and we have a large and experienced pastoral team who can support students both in and outside the academy. We want all students to be active members of the school community and supportive of SAA, whether that be representing their TG, House, Student Voice, Student Leadership (student voice in terms of their learning and all aspects of academy life, student leadership, tours, recruitment), belonging to a team/club etc.

Explore – To gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their passion for subjects, for learning and for life itself!

We hope during their time with us, students will get to experience and explore a broad and balanced curriculum, our extra-curricular programme and new experiences not just in school but through trips and visits. We want students to be fully supported in their learning and want them to become confident, resilient and independent young people with high aspirations for their future.

Flourish – To grow and mature as an individual, to flourish in your outlook, love for subjects, becoming ready for the world beyond your school

Achieve the VERY best for themselves, love of learning and reading, high aspirations for the future. We want all students to leave St Aldhelm’s Academy as a successful learners and well rounded individuals who are confident, kind and caring young people who will be successful as they navigate life and contribute positively to the community in which they live.

Ethos – “High Expectations lead to High Achievers”

Our mantra of “High Expectations lead to High Achievers” applies to the whole community. We believe in everybody having the courage to take responsibility and to demonstrate leadership; we understand to do this takes self-confidence, self – belief and resilience; these qualities together with being reflective will allow our whole community to “be the very best that they can be” and by creating the right opportunities and experience will allow for our “high expectations to lead to high achievers”.
